Kitara - English for children in East Africa

A mockup of an app to teach English.
The app is made up of 3 parts:
1. Cards - TopUp cards have an illustrated word on the backside. A user photographs the word on the card with the phone to see a related fact. All the facts have translation to the child’s native language. The user also gets a wallet to collect cards, making the cards collectable and reducing the waste caused by the used TopUp cards.
2. Dictionary - English translation to the user’s chosen language.. Nouns include an illustration. The app also features a matching game - English, Native language and illustration.
3. Story - the main part of the app. The child chooses an avatar and traverses familiar situations. While wandering - he converses with a variety of people. All conversations are conducted as an interactive chat, with various tasks for the child to fulfill - from recording himself, to assembling a sentence or picking colors and shapes.
