MISCELLANEOUS DESIGN PROJECTS
The following projects are either works-in-progress, side-ventures, or otherwise fascinations that I've been developing into full-fledged products.
DOG-OPERATED BALL CATAPULT
This reverse-engineering project stemmed from a craigslist request to figure out how to build a non-electronic automated ball-thrower, using the shown footage as a basis of design. The footage was rather blurry and took a good number of assumptions to figure out how each separate part operated, as only the input-side of the lever is shown in action. I eventually landed on a solid theory, that it used a set of offset levers to compress a spring which was released at full input by a latch. I took it a step further by building the customer a functional model (sans a reset latch, as I could not find one small enough for the scale that I had built), which the customer used to build their own finished product.
LIGHT-STRAND CHRISTMAS TREE
Yet another reverse engineering project. This one was fairly straight forward as far as the concept went; the actual design involved was more focused on selecting material so as build a sturdy product while minimizing costs. I ended up doing a good amount of math in order to find a suitable angle for the legs, as stability ended up being a trade-off for a nice cone-shaped appearance. I ended up running into installation problems regarding how to get the structure to stand straight, and had to make alterations to the support apparatuses in order to make it easier for the end-user to safely operate.
CUSTOM TRANSFORMABLE FURNITURE
This project is currently on-going. Being a fan of minimalist design, I often find myself revisiting how to cut down on wasted space in my apartments. One such avenue for doing so is by utilizing multi-functional furniture. All of my current furniture projects are in the sketching phase, and I'm constantly comparing existing products to see what features and materials work well together. My two main area of focus are on a custom futon (originally designed for tiny-house applications; pictured above), and kneeling stools!
CLOTHING AND MERCHANDISE
What started out as a simple case of supplying ordering group t-shirts has led me to become acquainted with clothing design and processes. Over time I've learned the basics of print-screening, crocheting / knitting, and custom jewelry. Though I'm by no means an expert, I still greatly enjoy both pouring time into one-of-a-kind items and working with vendors to ensure that my team is ordering a high-quality product.
