The design purpose of this cookbook is to present a group of ice-cream recipes by Akis Petretzikis in a creative
and unconventional manner. The major design decisions were heavily influenced by the Bauhaus
and the Memphis Art Movements. Each recipe is represented by a unique illustration. Hence, stylewise,
the illustrations are focused on geometric form, colour, and patterns. A specific colour palette is chosen to depict each one of the four categories of recipes, which consists of two print colours and the colour of the paper for each one, whereas the total absence of black throughout the book was also a deliberate choice. The proportions of the text and the images are almost equal since the special feature that differentiates the visual identity of the book from other similar ones is the bold and unexpected character of the imagery. The final result aspires
to enrich and widen the optical vocabulary of food illustrated representation and give the cookbook as
an item an artistic value in the context of collectible objects. Typographically, a simple sans-serif font is used in order for the more lengthy information to be delivered smoothly and along the lines of a contemporary functionality, whilst on titles and subtitles the approach is more playful.
