Entrepreneur, blogger, consultant, and popular speaker Eric Reis wrote The Lean Startup: How Today’s Entrepreneurs Use Continuous Innovation to Create Radically Successful Businesses in 2011. The book has received critical acclaim in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Harvard Business Review, Wired, and Fast Company.

The Lean Startup explores an innovative and scientific approach to accelerating the startup process so that products can get into customers’ hands faster. The principles of The Lean Startup are organized into three categories.

1. Vision. Ries encourages entrepreneurs to rely on scientific experimentation when starting a business. Throughout the experimenting process, owners can discover how to make their business sustainable.

2. Steer. This step involves developing a minimum viable product and testing the assumptions made during the vision stage. By tracking progress in a measurable fashion, owners are better equipped to decide if key changes are needed or if they simply need to persevere.

3. Accelerate. The book describes ways in which startups can power through the process in a lean, no-nonsense manner. The author explores organizational design and various technologies that can help bring success.
