DAR AL-ULOUM LIBRARY Architectural competition

Methods participated in DAR AL-ULOUM LIBRARY Architectural competition; the competition objective is to redevelop the existing library and surrounding campus. Dividing the layout into 3 parts. The right part which is the mosque and its plaza., The left part has a main path for pedestrians from school to the library. the landscape was designed to preserve the existing trees, include water features that afford breeze and reduce heat gain. The concrete tile, the selection of the parking slots was based on utilizing the dead spaces behind the main building to minimize the pollution that may enter the building according to the building orientation.  The main idea was to revive Saudi Arabia’s culture and architecture. Preserving the main structure of the existing building and upgrading the facade and interior as needed. The future extension will be extended vertically above the existing building as if the existing library is the base of the knowledge and the culture in sakaka, Al jouf region. The new building has a U-shape form for better orientation, ventilation and to penetrate natural light. Connect between the U-shape with links (bridges) to make shortcuts for visitors and readers. The shifting appears in all floor plans will act as shading to the beneath floor and also maximize the open spaces.
