Signe Skott Cooper Hall - UW Madison, School of Nursing

The University of Wisconsin-Madison’s School of Nursing is nationally recognized as a historic leader
in the innovative and effective education of nurses. Their emphasis on research, outreach, continuing education and the continuing evolution and improvement of their field has set them apart since early
in their 90+ year history. So when they decided to build their new state-of-the-art facility, Signe Scott Cooper Hall (LEED silver certified), we were hired to develop an interpretive plan for the building
and its grounds that would educate and inspire all who use and visit the building about the history
and philosophy of the school and its visionaries.

With Past as Prologue as our underlying theme and working closely with the school’s brilliant and visionary Dean, Kathryn May, we explored milestones in the history of nursing education and the role
they played as bridges to today’s innovations. This lead to the design of an exceptional 50+ foot
“vision history wall” at the main entrance of the building, exhibits showcasing the school’s artifacts in the Dean’s reception space, and numerous other interpretive, 3D and interactive audio-visual opportunities throughout the five-storey facility.
