Medical Identity Theft Awareness Campaign

Multichannel Campaign - Citizen-Facing Campaign and Service Delivery entry: Medical Identity Theft Awareness Campaign

Medical identity theft is a growing problem that can be associated with prescription drug fraud. In addition, personal medical information can be up to 60 times more valuable on the dark web than stolen credit card information.

Thus the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG) is making a significant effort to increase awareness of the fraudulent activity to ensure the American public has the tools necessary to protect themselves.

In October of 2017, the Communications Office launched the first phase of the awareness campaign, which featured animations, public service announcements, brochures, and a webpage in English and Spanish, some of which you'll find below.

The HHS-OIG Communications Office is a small team that understands the power of compelling multimedia. Tools such as Premiere Pro, Audition, AfterEffects, among other Adobe products allow us to use our time strategically and to reach our stakeholders on the topics that affect their daily lives.

The agency continues to see positive results in this campaign with nearly 24 million people reached through our outreach efforts.
