Spotswood Centennial Celebration

Spotswood Centennial Celebration
When I heard that my town was going to be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2008, I joined the commission that was organized to plan the event.  After hearing about their basic plans for fundraising, I offered to give them a professional logo at no cost to them to use on all the materials.

Usage of the logo on promotional materials, signage and even a brick walkway proved a runaway success and provided $65,000 in funds to provide a free celebration for 3300 of the town residents.

Seen here are a few samples of the work that was done using my designs:
Using a turn of the century typeface and  an old photograph of Spotswood that showed that the streets were once lined with gas lamps, I developed an identity for the town that is still being used today.
My goal for these street banners was to bring the gas lamps back to Spotswood, which I think they did nicely.  Too bad the telephone poles weren't wrought iron.
A close up of one of the street banners on its pole.
A first for me, I designed an adaption of the logo that was carved from stone and placed at the center of a brick walkway at our municipal center.  It will likely outlive me!
Another first for me was the offer from our local post office to commission a cancellation mark to be used at the celebratory event.  These are the first two cancellations - you can see that the one on top has a faded area as it was the first impression made from the stamp.  I also designed two different postcards that patrons could purchase and have canceled.
The cover for the event program.  Behind the logo are photographs from the town archives and an overlay of a map of the town dating from the 1600's.
A selection of mugs and glasses were created...
... as were the obligatory hats and shirts.
