Defining Space and Time

Defining Space and Time is a small self-publication and an observational exploration into the tiles that permeate the bustling and dense Hong Kong landscape. Tiles became the topic of interest after noticing their persistence as a lasting material in a country of constant change, in landscapes and mindsets. The people of Hong Kong continue to prove themselves to be masters of re-purposing and re-imagining objects and tools, creative in understanding materiality and colour - tiles are no exception to their keen sense of thriftiness.
The cover doubles as a poster, on which the visual essay is on the back of, collapsing to provide a readable format. A simplistic grid structure and framed pages reinforces the structure that tiles provide, as well as appearing like windows into tiled views. A monospaced font was also used to highlight the rigidity and even spacings between each square and rectangle.
