TINNITUS
Naomi Jansen
This project deals with the hearing damage better known as Tinnitus. It’s when someone has hearing damage resulting into constantly being disturbed by an inevitable sound. in Tinnitus Jansen translated the sound that patients are constantly hearing into a visual image. Tinnitus can create a massive storm inside someone’s head. To realize this project the artist worked together with several patients, whom are suffering from Tinnitus. She asked them to describe how the sound they are hearing would look like in form and colour. After the interviews she started to create their sound by means of household materials. This refers to the disturbance in their daily life. Eventually the artist created images that represent the sounds of several Tinnitus patients. In this project Jansen finds the perfect balance between social engagement and autonomous art. By exhibiting Tinnitus it in waiting rooms of hospitals, it creates a physical environment to find fellow sufferers dealing with the same conditions.
