We were commissioned by Greenwood Distillers to develop and design a bottle of mezcal. We called it Ceniza meaning “ash” in Spanish, inspired by the roasting of the agave plant, from which mezcal is made. The charing of the agave piña simultaneously removes the toxins and gives it it’s distinct taste.
Both the name and the bottle’s ashy finish reflect Mexican folklore, influenced by the traditional campesino process of distilling.
The gold touches symbolize the ten years of solar energy needed for an agave plant to mature, before it can be roasted. It is said that when you drink mezcal, what you’re actually drinking, is solar energy.
