NBC's The Voice Award Design process

 The Voice - NBC
Trophy Re-design
Coming from the sales team the client wanted to redesign their award and they wanted to move to an award that represented the "V" in the Voice logo. The specific input from the client was that they want a modern design that leverages the "V" shape from their logo. They wanted silver as the main color and black as the base and they were open in exploring with the combination of shiny silver and brushed silver at 13”tall.

Based on this feedback, I started studying the voice branding and getting inspired by different concepts like music, sound waves, microphone, textures as well as the idea of team work, growth and more. All aspects that I feel represent the voice but most important I kept in mind that I need to stay true to the "V" shape. I wanted to showcase a blend of complex, modern and simple designs.

From there I started sketching ideas out and the ones I liked most I explored further in CAD and presented to CEO for further feedback. The process is visually detailed below.

Final design chosen by client can be seen below. This was inspired by the idea of holding a microphone.

Additional designs presented below. There was only one round of designs for this brief. They are inspired by microphones the way you hold it or the texture that the mic has as well as the idea of growth. The polygon design is the notion of a diamond in the raw like you are a talent in the raw. Initial sketches can be seen below. I love that process cause things can always turn out differently then sketched or even better than imagined.
