College Therapy Dogs: How They Help Fight Anxiety And Stress

College can be one of the most stressful times, especially when you’re pursuing a difficult degree.  And stress can be the gateway to even more problems such as anxiety if not addressed properly.  For that, some colleges have come up with an ingenious and adorable way of solving it.  Therapy dogs.

A study conducted by the University of British Columbia showed that spending time with a therapy dog can boost the wellness levels of a student.  The study’s results showed reduction in stress levels and feelings of negativity for the students.  Other more obvious signs of improved health include decrease in blood pressure and anxiety relief.

In this therapy session, the students were allowed to pet, cuddle, and chat with seven to 12 dogs with each session.  Some students felt residual effects of the therapy even 10 hours after the session.

This has led to universities in the U.S. as well as Canada to open up puppy rooms which allows students to freely visit therapy dogs and spend time with them.

Besides stress from studies, these therapy dogs are also great for students who miss their canine buddies whom they’ve left home when they went off to college.
