Witness to War: Remembering 1942 is an exhibition commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Japanese invasion of Singapore. Held at the National Museum of Singapore, it recounts stories of World War II through its "witnesses" - individuals who have experienced the hardships and impact of the war first-hand.
GSM Project Singapore helmed the space and graphic design for the exhibition, which ran from 23 September 2017 to 25 March 2018. As GSM Project's intern, Yolande assisted with the production of graphics and illustration.

The exhibition's zone markers and main installations feature sepia-toned images of
Singapore before, during and after the war, overlaid with a raw "torn paper" treatment.

The exhibition space features a 4 circular pods, each with a different theme:
Destruction, Displacement, Love & Loss, and Fortitude.

Visitors can pen a letter to the witnesses of war if they wish.

The Family Activity Space is a dedicated zone where families with young children can experience how life was like during the war - from the food consumed, to how one can take shelter during an air raid. The space included various illustrations and props to create and immersive experience for our young visitors.
