UNITX REBEL TARTAN : THEME RESEARCH 

Starting point as a global crime : Human trafficking, our group has students from Fashion and Textiles with different specialism as Print ( Lola, Cory and San) , knit ( James), weaving ( Jessica ) and embroidery ( me )  

We started with different topic at the first two week with different vision of human trafficking in different countries like the illegal immigrant in London, child marriage in India and Vietnam, modern slavery in North Korea and child labour in Philippines . After tutorial with Robin and Sarah, we found out some gaps in our research in general and in group's communication in particularly. It was quite challenging for us doing as a group with so many topics likes these, so we agreed that we need to narrow the theme as Child marriage in India. We took some initial key words from the rejected topic before as "Human has been sold as an object "," barcode", "money". Personally, with my Asian background I already have some basic acknowledges about this issue . In India, the children, especially the girls there. They were sold as a business deal by their parents to another rich family, known as brides but has been treated no more than slaves . 

For my personal research, I looked into the traditional wedding ceremony in India. They used lots of bright and bold colour as orange, yellow, red , green and golden. Based on this color scheme, I also looked at the marigold flower that they used for decorating in the wedding ceremony. This is the iconic flower in India, which has a positive symbolic meaning but was putting in a very sad situation ( child marriage ). From the opposite side of this ( bright colour with dark fact ) , I combined the bright colour with the blackened white barcode with the blue heart tartan and the shape of flower to do samples.
