Trashumance of the Sheep in Canale Monterano

On a lovely week day we had fun seeing the sheep’s transhumance and enjoying a nice blue sky after weeks of annoying rain: we discovered Antica Monterano, a ghost/ruin city an hour car drive North from Rome, a small location for a lot of great movies including Ben Hur.
After days and weeks of pouring rain, we finally had a lovely sunny day so we decided to take advantage of it and with the occasion take Jam on a walk – she is almost 13 years old now and it made me sad to see how she gets tired quite easily now, when just a couple years ago she used to walk and run around like crazy for hours. Although we did not walk that much this time, she fall asleep immediately in the car, with her face the only part of her body that was lit by the sunlight. A sheep herd passed ahead of us, and we let them go: smaller and bigger ones, whites and browns, walking and running, little ones laying down them jumping up again! The shepard told us that some of the sheep got attacked a few weeks before by a huge dog and they still have some scars on their faces, so he is more careful now. Jam (who is a Jack Russell) just like when she saw the buffalos for the first time, was amazed. She was staring at the sheep that were pasturing and I wondered what she might have been thinking! We all love a great outdoors experience and some countryside fresh air, can’t wait to get out for the next 3-days trip again at the end of April!
