ART PROJECT
(The Perfect Fairytale)
For the last exhibition of ArtOverijssel I was asked to submit a piece of art in collaboration with 3 other artists. We were free to do whatever we wanted. To hold but control that freedom we decided to take the title ‘The Perfect Fairytale’ as our theme. Each one of us created a piece in line with his or her craft. As a graphic artist I chose to create a big, old-fashioned fairytale book. With blank pages. Meaning there either is no such thing as a ‘perfect’ fairytale, it still has to be written or – better yet – you can fill in or make up your own ‘perfect fairytale’. It was great to see and hear the reactions of the visitors at the exhibition.
The artwork for the cover was inspired by the classic books as well as modern works from the likes of Dana Tanamachi, Jessica Hische and Jill De Haan. Unfortunately it was too expensive to print the design in gold foil, so I screen printed it in gold ink. The books were completely handmade, from start to finish.
