The Campanile (2010 to 2012)

The Campanile is Palo Alto High School's student newspaper. An award winning publication, it is published eight times during the school year and led entirely by student editors in chief. I joined the staff as a junior, in 2010, and was selected as an editor in chief my senior year.

In addition to awards won by the publication, I individually won a number of awards for my work with the Campanile, including:
- The Herb Caen Scholarship for High School Journalists, presented by the Peninsula Press Club (2012)
- 2nd place, Peninsula Press Club High School Journalism Awards, news story (2012)
- 1st place: Columbia Scholastic Press Association Journalism Contest, personal opinion (2011)
- Honorable mention: Columbia Scholastic Press Association Journalism Contest, entertainment review (2011)

My responsibilities included leading the staff of 60 students, writing stories for deadlines, taking photographs for sports and news stories, and designing pages and graphics.

I also led a newspaper re-design prior to the 2012-2013 school year, including updating fonts, minor logo adjustments and a decrease in the page-width of the paper to made reading easier.

Below is a sample issue.
One of the issues of The Campanile I edited. In addition to writing stories and taking photographs, for this issue, I also designed the front page graphic.
I primarily photographed sports, including wrestling, basketball, football, soccer and volleyball. In addition to local game coverage, I travelled with the school volleyball team to Los Angeles to photograph the 2012 California Division 1 State Volleyball Championships.
