A Taiwanese Giselle
Combining traditional Chinese painting techniques and Taiwanese culture with the timeless nature of the French ballet Giselle, A Taiwanese Giselle was a year long project reinterpreting the ballet within the context of the aborigine Atayal tribe of Taiwan during the time of the Japanese occupation from 1895 to 1945. As the story progresses, the paintings become darker and colder, much like the second act of the ballet with the arrival of the Wilis.
