The Final Animatic
The objective of this project was to animate a thirty second or less piece after writing a script for it. The script was to be written after writing a short prose piece of a selected memory. The script had had to be altered in a way so that the story can be shown in thirty seconds or less, yet still conveying what it had to. As my style of writing is descriptive and elaborate, I let that seep into the script as well.

Fade In
EXT. The street —Afternoon

The rain grows from a light drizzle to a full downpour in seconds, the drops hitting the roads with thunderous force, the area turning misty and the buildings becoming silhouettes. The headlights of the passing vehicles dance across the now reflective streets, the raindrops in front of the light being lit up brilliantly for a moment until the vehicle passes. The traffic signal blinked green for a few slow seconds until it finally turned to red.

CUT TO:

A lone BOY, taller than average and with messy dark hair, rushes with a folder over his head and skids to a clumsy stop, only to let out a frustrated groan when he saw the red of the traffic sign on the opposite side of the crossing. Dejectedly, he stares at the rain in dismay and tightens the drawstrings of his hood with jerky, trembling hands and a scowl, clothes and bag rapidly turning wet under the rain.

CUT TO:
He huddles into his hoodie, shivers racking his body as he stares desperately at the traffic light on the opposite side, the red of it blurry and distorted through the downpour. The sky gets darker as each second passes, heavy clouds covering up the space until the sky is entirely a gloomy grey. His clothes get darker as water seeps into it, and the squelch of his waterlogged sneakers disrupt the otherwise static background noise of the rain shower.
Just as another shiver racks his body, the rain stops and the sound of the water is slightly muffled. Baffled, he looks up to see a part of a lemon yellow umbrella over him. Confused, he turns to the side slowly to see a GIRL with choppy hair and slightly shorter than him, holding the umbrella above the both of them. Sensing his stare, the girl slightly turns and smiles softly.

CUT TO:

He looks away after a second or two, red overtaking his face as he sneaks subtle glances at her from the corner of his eyes. He fidgets in place, eyes still not able to stay on the other for too long.

BOY

…Um. Thank you.

CUT TO:
The girl smiles again at that, a bit more reassuringly, and adjust her hold on the umbrella before turning back to the front again. The boy smiles slightly as well after a beat, turning away from her and slowly relaxes.

CUT TO:

A long shot of the both of them from the back under the umbrella, the bright yellow visible amidst the heavy rain obscuring most of the street.

THE END
First draft of a tentative storyboard after the finalization of the script.

My aim with this project is to produce 3D characters as I had already explored with 3D spaces in the first seminar.

As such, with the story I've finalised, I wish to challenge myself with characters and facial expressions in the 3D space.   These ten images show the bare skeleton of the story, and as such is not the completed storyboard, but the first draft.
