Chester Street Makers Logo

I recently went through a logo design process for a new personal brand I'm starting called "Chester Street Makers". It's basically a blog and Youtube channel where I work on various "maker" things like woodworking, electronics, props or whatever I want to make real.

I wanted the logo to convey that I'd be working with both traditional materials, but also digital stuff, so I kept coming back to a saw blade and symbols to represent a circuit board.

Here's the final, colored version of the logo, with some of the process below.
Here's most of the first brainstorming phase. I usually start by finding fonts that convey the feeling I'm looking for. At first, I went down the "street" metaphor (Chester Street is the street my grandpa lived on, who was the inspiration for the name and the channel). I figured that was a bit too literal.

I liked a couple options with the banners, but they also looked like they could be on a loaf of bread (actually, an early name concept was "Chester Street Makery". Like bakery, but you know ... for makers. Yeah).

Then I moved onto versions that combined a circular saw blade with a circuit board, which was ultimately the direction I went.
So I decided this was the logo, now to choose colors! Always a daunting task, I threw a ton of options out there to get feedback.
The clear favorites had a lot in common, so I made up a few variations of those.
And here's where we landed. There are three variations that can be used in different scenarios, both black-and-white and color. I'm pretty happy with these!
