Before our feelings consume us, we as humans need an outlet to release our pent up emotions. But due to the constant fear of being judge, we keep everything bottled up and let the negative emotions eat us up. Serein, your personal cloud confidante will come alive with light as you let down your walls and release your inner frustrations, stimulating how a confidante would be listening to your troubles. Whilst you shout at the cloud, it will visually display your negative emotions in a colourful & encapsulating manner, hopefully leaving the audience member feeling relieved & wonderstruck.

The Cloud Room
Serein is a room installation which essentially allows audience members to vent their inner anger or frustrations through their shouts or screams onto their ‘personal’ cloud. The cloud would then visually display their negativity in a colorful and encapsulating manner which hopefully leaves the audience member feeling relieved and wonderstruck.
The Idea Behind
This idea of creating a venting room stemmed from the need for an outlet for people’s frustrations, something or somewhere more personal yet without the feeling that they are alone. As human beings are social creatures, ranting our frustrations to another would relieve us of those negative feelings easily, as they are there to respond to us and care for us at our lowest. However, if we encouraged everyone to do the same, everyone might start getting bombarded by everyone’s negativity and the cycle may never be broken. Hence, we have developed the cloud to have a similar feedback as that of a confidante but without having to worry whether it would be affected negatively by your feelings. It comes alive with light whilst you shout at it, stimulating how a confidante would be listening to your troubles intently, therefore removing the loneliness one would be feeling if they were just in the room alone with an un-responding object.
The Technical
An audience member would be brought into the room by a ‘therapist’ and introduced to the cloud. He or she would be brought nearer to the cloud and prompted to express their inner frustrations or angst through shouting and screaming. The shouting would then trigger the light display stemming from inside the cloud. The louder the audience member shouts, the brighter the cloud would get. This goes on until the audience member reaches a maximum volume then the cloud would display this ‘maximum’ in a myriad of colors whilst fading in and out. A projection would be cued at the same time, spewing virtual star-like particles around the audience member, expressing the explosion of their pent up emotions, creating an all-around experience, encapsulating the audience.
