Meiji Sushi is a concept for an upscale sushi bar in Philadelphia, PA.

When coming up with a logo for Meiji Sushi, I wanted to create something that avoided the more stereotypical sushi bar or Asian restaurant trappings. Things like brush textures, traditional typography, rice paper were out. Instead, the Meiji Sushi look is simplified and strongly geometric. The wordmark in the logo was designed to draw from the shapes found in Japanese katakana characters. I then expanded on this idea and created a pattern from the sushi pieces in the logo, and illustrations that reference that geometric look.
