Finnish haiku is my woven artwork in tapestry style (with covered warp and discontinuous weft).
The piece was created in February 2018.
Materials: linen yarn, linen twine.
Dimensions: 45cm x 40cm
The starting point for working on this project was a photo I took in Finnish woods during summer 2017 art residency, Arteles - Freedom for Creativity. I found the photo inspiring in its mood and for particular type of light underlying every little branch of the half-dead tree.
I am fascinated with the idea of creating an artwork based on a structure, pattern or idea normally hidden, obscured, which has to be discovered by careful observation or by pure stroke of luck. This particular photo was a result of me coming to a place in a moment when the transitory light allowed me to see the object and its environment in a very special way, allowing me to discover its striking beauty.
