Design Question: How might we educate people about laws and regulations to help them make better choices in future?

Project scope: Geographic location sharing and real-time sharing are the two main features of our service. Thus, we designed two main functions based on those main features. One is Map-happening function which allows audiences to check all of the situations such as accidents, speeding, drinking, robbing and etc. Another one is Hashtag-happening function. It means the audience can get some suggestions from people around him/her in real-time. Finally, the audience can contribute to the Mappen Community as well. They can share anything they see to help others.

Geographic Location Sharing

This is easy to understand, almost every application is using geographic sharing service. Our project focus on movements of our audience geographically. Thus, this not only allows audiences to check whatever happening around them but help them to share something is happening as witnesses. Moreover, according to this feature, our service would help users to choose a relatively safe area to go. 

Categorized Filter Function

The data of our service are going to massive. So, as usual, we designed a filter function to help users to identify those events by using all, bad, average, good, top 10 useful and top 10 most commented.

Search Bar Function

In our search bar, we designed two different functions: location search and hashtag. Users can search either locations or hashtags which they prefer. By searching locations or hashtags, users will access the map screens or hashtag community. 

Popping Out Information Window on Map

We designed a pop out information window for users. There are lots of events happening which are displayed on the map by using different colors of dots. When a user taps a specific dot, he/she will see the details of this event. And, if he/she tap the content, it will jump into the theme of discussion section.  

Events Area Visualization Design

According to active user’s reports, our database will help other users to synthesize a visualized area. This function will help users to recognize which area is accessible relatively. 

Real Times Hashtag Sharing Function

Another function we built into our application is to show a real times updates of active users. When active users post their situations by using hashtags, others will see it through scrolling window on the bottom of the map. 

Colorful Profile Picture

We designed colorful outline for each user. This will indicate the types of events are happening from each user. 

Popularity Rating

We used green, yellow, red, triangle and rectangle to indicate the popularity rating for each event. 

Comment Function

We offer comment function as well. We want to build a community for our audience to exchange their information and experiences. 

Hashtag, Location, and Media

We offer these three functions to our audiences based on our core concept. Also, Instagram is our mental model to help us develop these.

Self - history, and Profile

We designed a self-history page for our users. The user can browse and check his/her past posts, comments and history through a page. For the profile page, we add friends inviting function for our users. 

the Influence of Our Solution’s Effectiveness

After the interview, we found our secondary research results had a big gap with our users. Basically, they do not need very professional suggestions when they are going somewhere the first time. If they need it, they will ask or hire a lawyer to help. Thus, we switch our direction towards to more casual one.

After affinity mapping process, we found our application’s function was too general to our users. It included too many functions. And it lost distinguishing features and became very complicated. Therefore, we reduce many of redundancy.

After paper prototype stage, according to the feedbacks of testers, we adjusted our wireframe again. And redesign some features and added some content to let user experience sense-making.

In the interfaces design stage, we had tons of different opinions on the user experience and visual design. This is a real iterative design process.
