Damascus Citizens for Sustainability (DCS)
Damascus Citizens for Sustainability (DCS) is a collaborative endeavor to preserve and protect clean air, land and water as a civil and basic human right in the face of the threat posed by the shale gas extraction industry. Since it was formed in February 2008, DCS has been at the forefront on the issue of horizontal hydrofracking for natural gas (fracking).
a. Audience: Mostly people in the areas where the sand is mined.
b. Purpose: 
- facilitate educating about processes, impacts and what tools are available is needed to mobilize communities before impacts on human health and ecological services on which all communities depend become permanent.
- Counter the powerful media campaign being waged by the natural gas industry and the frack-sand mining companies to convince the public of the safety of these extraction processes and that there are economic benefits, despite existing evidence of damages to the land and human health.
- Educate policymakers at various levels of government about the risks of the sand mining, trucking and use.
c. Quantity and budget: 5,000 copies for 4,000 USD
