No espaço roubado à mágoa
2016
É numa água-furtada
No espaço roubado à mágoa
Que Alfama fica fechada
Em quatro paredes de água
Quatro paredes de pranto
It is in a loft
In the space robbed to sorrow
That Alfama is closed
In four walls of water
Four walls of mourning
in ‘Alfama’, Ary dos Santos [1937-84]
Taking as a starting point the poem ‘Alfama’ by Ary dos Santos, fragma collective embraces the portrait of three historical neighbourhoods: Alfama, Costa do Castelo and Mouraria in multiple dimensions.
Here, the imagery of fado crosses with the labyrinth of streets and the people that take their course in a confluence of old and new cultures, in a path connecting the past and the present.
This project is part of a larger body of work, subordinated to the idea of ‘sense of place’, which the collective has been exploring since 2015.
