OnSet VFX Mapping

BTS on how we did the Live OnSet VFX Mapping for the Picture SOLO ES UNA MAS
The director of the movie came to me asking for a postproduction job with some VFX shots.  After analyzing the situation I came up with the idea of doing the VFX or Visuals live on set instead of post-produce them. Nobody believed in this idea but persuading them slowly, showing some work examples and doing some tests. I ended up creating the Visuals. The location was an old prison in Quito called Garcia Moreno closed in 2014. We ended up shooting in the block where the most notorious criminals were held at that time. It was a pretty creepy experience shooting in these halls and cells knowing some stories from the former guards. The art department did an amazing job with the set design. When setting up a new shot the Director, DP and I decided where and what to project on and I started setting up the projectors while the grip guys set up their lights. It was not easy to make the shots work because two different light conditions had to be achieved where the projections in the back or foreground can be seen by the camera and at the same time the actors. Compromises had to be made on both sides but the final result works quite well.
