Fabrica Features presented Memory Trace, an exhibition during my residency in Editorial Area at Fabrica, Communication Research Centre of Benetton Group based in Treviso, Italy. Curiosity and intervention of the public is the cornerstone of the exhibition.
The artworks illustrates violent facts in Mexico from the last 50 years, such as the massacres of Tlatelolco 1968 and Acteal 1997; attacks against women from 1993 and against journalists from the year 2000; the Narco War that started in 2006 and the most recent forced disappearance of 43 students in Ayotzinapa. All these incidents marked the history and the contemporary context of Mexico, for this reason, the artist aims to trigger the collective memory and global conscience through the language of graphic arts and illustration.
The exhibition presents a series of six silkscreen print posters apparently blank, which must be revealed spreading charcoal on it by hand, staining the artwork and hands as well, creating a communication between the poster and who reveal it, leaving a trace of dirt, a metaphorical sign of awareness and memory. Each poster is a limited edition of 25 copies that can be acquired by the visitors during the exhibition.
