"Windows" is a cybernetic piece that aims to talk about voyeurism and the invasion of an individual’s privacy through the Internet. It appropriates live images of surveillance cameras all around the world, captured by the controversial website insecam. Adopting an archive-like form, or perhaps an online platform structure for the more than curious, this page organizes such cameras within the web, letting us into places that are unaware of the possible witnesses to the images that are being recorded by their video-surveillance devices.

Its purpose is to question the real power of a camera, the so called panoptic power mentioned by philosopher Jeremy Bentham, in this case located in today’s web-dominated society. It also shares a direct bond with the Big Brother concept, referring to the being that is constantly watching.

By activating the spectator’s camera, this piece’s aim is to create certain doubts within them, leading to questions such as: is a surveillance camera safe? Is it protecting me or is it watching me? Who can see me? Is there actually someone behind that device? A series of questions regarding the vast and mysterious world that is the Internet, as well as the universal surveillance system.
