I took a course in Spring Quarter 2010 called "Cognitive Design Studio" (COGS 102C). Professor Hollan taught this project-based course and essentially, we had to redesign an existing system. I coordinated my group to redesign UCSD Experimetrix.
UCSD Experimetrix was the website that UCSD students used to sign up for experiments. I found Experimetrix extremely unusable and it has way too many clusters of steps and convoluted processes.
We took user interviews of novice & expert users, created sequence models, and made an affinity diagram of all the observations we saw. That helped us devise a storyboard to guide our redesign. The above screenshots are snapshots of the redesigned mockup we made in Powerpoint. We presented the prototype for the redesigned Experimetrix to Professor Hollan.
