Concept
Aura is a project that was designed for the 2016 Lexus Design Award Competition under the name Munio. Based on the term Anticipation, my intent was to combine intuitive technology with a simplistic form to create a design that can be universally implemented. Though my entry was not chosen as one of the four finalists, it was placed on the Lexus Design Award Shortlist and made an appearance on Yanko Design. Inspired by my design intentions but wanting to refine the original form, Aura is an updated look at how to 'anticipate' home security risks.

Ideation
The ideation for Aura went in multiple directions, including door mounted sensors, 360° video cameras, and touch-key entry systems. However, the final security door handle direction was chosen due to a lack of market saturation and an ability to prevent a majority of break-ins in residential areas.

Final Direction
Aura improves on the previous design by adding audible prompts through a side speaker and a more subtle approach to fingerprint access. Other existing features were kept and improved both in functionality and aesthetic.

Online Platform
In addition to a mobile application, Aura also allows you to update the software for your specific unit through the website as well as report any issues you may have.

The Aura mobile application allows the user to view video footage, program personal lock-out settings, and unlock their unit remotely. Through alerts and prompts, Aura is able to alert the user of any unexpected visitors. In the event of a break-in, Aura would immediately contact emergency services.
