ABSTRACT MUSIC VIDEO

This project was a group project that I worked on along with a classmate, Madhavi Nair, in 2015. We had studied abstract book cover making, composition, color theory and color scripting before working on this project. The abstract music video was the final project under the module for the semester. We were taught and guided by Michael Zauner for the entire module.

Using color and forms we had to create a music video which worked in harmony with a selected audio track. The journey or story was to be displayed using simple shapes. Simple but with high quality. This was to be achieved by using pleasing forms and colors and most importantly absolute sync to the track. Repetitiveness was to be avoided unless the track demanded so. Transitions to note change in music could be shown by change in color, shapes, movement of objects, camera movement or interesting shot transition.

Steps followed:
1. Selecting and analyzing music track, noting emotions or a story we could associate with the music.
2. Creation of simple thumbnails, detailing events in track, noting instruments or change in tempo, finding a basic beat or sound as a common base for animation.
3. Creating a story board and a color script based on the information to see the flow of story and color. Using story board, creating a rough animatic to see the duration of each scene.
4. Creating final assets to be used while animating.Presenting the video with all the pre-production.
