Fly Caterpillar Poster Series

Semiotics is the study of processes the give meanings to signs and symbols. I explored the concept of semiotics by creating posters based on a quote that represents each semiotic principles. The principles, in short, are Symbolic, Iconic, and Indexical. Symbolic means the poster is made up of symbols (letters, numbers, signs). Iconic means the poster uses imagery that represents the message literally. Indexial means the poster uses imagery that allows for the message to be interpreted.

I used Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Indesign to complete this project. Each poster was meant to reference the other and build on the theories of semiotics. The most challenging part was making sure the posters stayed true to its particular type of semeiotics without including too much of another type. I worked with my professors to fine-tuned the posters to make sure they presented the theory correctly.  My quote was from Chance the Rapper: "And I knew I was fly when I was just a caterpillar"
