This continuing series developed from a formal concept: to create mixed media collages based on the myriad architectural styles characteristically evident on the streets of New York. The city is distinctive in its ability to simultaneously embrace, often within a single block, past and present, high and low, traditional and modern, forming a constantly changing kaleidoscope. The square format allows me to enhance the abstract nature of these structures by inverting and juxtaposing the elements to create a multi-directional piece - an influence from my former days as a textile designer. New York is a city of colorful contrasts and this body of work is an expression of that urban experience.
