Youth Orchestra Waikato or YOW is a new programme developed to get young people excited about playing in an orchestra. It was a very open brief - to create a brand that would appeal to young musicians and a logo that they would proudly wear on a T-shirt. From research into what other Orchestras around the world have used as their branding, popular youth culture branding, and musical graphic design, I drew on bright colours, bold type, abstract shapes and musical instruments, to create a brand that captures the heart behind the new programme and resonates with the founders.
