My Work:
This two-page magazine editorial was created to showcase the recipe for “The 90 Minute Turkey”. The ambitious writer of Extreme Holiday Ideas is always entertaining, but at the same time all over the place, unorganized, and tacky. I wanted to portray his recipe and accomplishment for cooking a turkey in 90 minutes with a look that will attract readers and inspire them to try it out- not to be seen as just a joke. The recipe received a modern, bold, and mature makeover for his work. I provided this with minimal colors and necessary white space to organize the large amount of text provided so that it could be read easily and visually stimulating for the readers.

Brewtastic NC is an iPhone App that is used to find information on all of North Carolina’s breweries. With the rapid growth of new breweries opening within the past few years, I thought it necessary to create an app dedicated to finding this information for the NC beer lover. After all, Asheville is always ranked as one of the best beer towns and has been awarded Beertown, U.S.A.! Brewtastic NC allows the users to search by either region or zip code. All brewery listings are shown with brewery name and location. Brewery home pages offers the users addresses, phone numbers, website, beers offered, directions, and reviews. The user can also rate breweries visited and has a page to keep their favorites with notes. I kept the look clean and minimal with a natural wood grain background. The logo is simple, but bold. Colors used are masculine, but not overwhelmingly so that a female would not enjoy using this as well. To help achieve this, used was a modern sans-serif font with a bold vintage inspired script. The overall look is a pairing of rustic and modern to show that NC breweries are now something to be recognized and respected.

These postcards were inspired by Pantone colors and how we could bring them alive to represent us as a person as well as a designer. I decided to pair this with my favorite season Fall, so “FALLing for Pantone” was created. All four postcards use three Pantone color combinations, imagery, and taglines. The photographs were first edited in Photoshop using tritone-color mode before being brought into InDesign for layout. I steered clear of typical fall color combinations and brought them to life with fall puns to catch the buyer’s attentions. They were then printed on a heavy, single coated card stock.
Shows back of postcards described above. All backs include overall theme name "FALLing for Pantone" with colors and Pantone names used.
Swoon Stationery offers personalized and wedding stationery. Their target is mainly for young adult women; so a soft color palette was used. To appeal to all style types, I paired a sans-serif font with the heart logo so it had just the right amount of feminine touch. Achieved, was the modern soft look they were going for. Produced was their logo, business cards, letterhead, business envelopes, as well as other matching promotional pieces for their company.
“The Triceratops’s Guide to Survival” was created for a book that could not contain any pages based on the title and subject. When designing the covers and spine, I focused in keeping the feel of a children’s book with simple illustrations and playful colors. I want the viewer to look at the book and see it first as a children’s book, but then catch onto the dry sense of humor it’s truly conveying. The triceratops was first sketched out before being brought into Photoshop to clean up stray lines and other imperfections. After the sketch had been edited, it was brought into Illustrator so that it could be created into a vector where color and other details were then added.
Pickachu’s Adventures was a concept design promoting the new Nintendo DS game’s launch kit. I kept the look staying true to first generation of Pokémon. Brought back was Ash and Pikachu, Pokémon’s most recognizable characters. Included in the kit was: Pikachu’s Adventures game, Poke Notes notepad, Hat, T-shirt, Pokémon Gym Badges, Snorlax Plush, and Pokeball Keychain, and item’s sheet. The kit’s container is a large Pokedex, the tool used to find useful information on Pokémon met during travels. Because of its purpose, the Pokedex was the perfect fit for holding all of the launch kit’s items. The box was carefully painted and decals were printed so that it was a close match. Designed was the logo, pokedex decals, pokedex side label, poke notes notepad, item’s sheet, and DS game covers. Everything was kept bright, colorful, and playful. The items included are meant for interaction so that the gamer could feel as if they were really in the game. Artwork belongs to and is copyrighted by Nintendo and Pokémon.

The Container Store has always had the image of fresh clean products to organize your home. But when you go to the container store you are not just organizing your home, you are organizing your life. The image on the top half of the ad was all created in Photoshop with the help of Illustrator. Each piece was made with high attention to detail to create a realistic look with the use of effects and tools. I then incorporated their signature blue to help create a modern block look with logo placed in bottom right. The layout of words help bring your eyes across the piece with “organization” emphasized.
