Bruce Lee Poster Project 03

Bruce Lee is most known as a martial artist; however, many people might not know that he was also an active philosopher. Lee incorporated Chinese Philosophy, mainly Yin and Yang, into his arts. Yin and Yang is the philosophy of when opposites form together as one. He saw the philosophy as a great discipline and strictly applied it to his lifestyle. In this poster, I displayed Yin and Yang by incorporating the darkness/ light and black/white tones into the background and the letterings/characters. Chinese calligraphy is considered an important element of the philosophy; it is parallel to Yin and Yang because calligraphy is about the darkness of the ink being fused with the light canvas, which completes the piece as one. The black characters on the right side are Lee’s name in Mandarin, as opposed to the white letters of the left side that spells his English name. The purpose was to show the opposites in language and regardless of the differences, the two still had one meaning. Also, the calligraphy dragon was an appropriate element for the poster, not only because of the calligraphy but also because Lee was nicknamed "Little Dragon."
