Polarity - Table Lamp
An easy to assemble table lamp that fits into many home living environments.
Polarity is a personal side project that looks at how the freedom of 3D printing and the standardization of traditional, existing materials and pieces can work together to create an easy to assemble, do-it-yourself table lamp.
The technology of 3D printing will soon be even more accessible to the average consumer, where prints can live on their own or be combined with other materials to create lasting products and pieces. The vision is where a user can print out pieces while buying the rest at a hardware store to easily construct a product.
First initial sketches were loose and explored forms and broad ideas. Then, highlighting certain ones that had potential in order to create a more developed story through concepts.
Models revealed size, form and different intersections of a standardized ash dowel, and 3D print. I looked at how a base, stem and shade can contrast, but create harmony when all together and be easy to assemble.
Fabrication involved sanding and painting the 3D prints and purchasing a common knob socket, wiring, plug and light bulb.
