Mitochondria's Cesarean

Mitochondria’s Cesarean
Designers: Parsa Kamehkhosh & Dorsa Javaherian
Mitochondria’s Cesarean is both the pressure and resistance and stands on the threshold of disruption. it is rooted in a mental dilemma between "the strong desire to create and express" & "the resistance of the districts that dominate our situation and causes inability". Designers Parsa Kamehkhosh and Dorsa Javaherian, applied more than 1000 of cardboard pieces to create 9 simple organic shapes. The structures of these pieces are similar to the visual structure of Mitochondria which is mainly composed of layers. These 9 pieces have been tightly wrapped by the polyester strings. They present both the senses of pressure and resistance and stands on the threshold of disruption. The inherent quality of the cardboard pieces was really inspiring through the ideation process.  Besides, the pressure of the polyester string through the wrapping process was one of the determining points to achieve the final shapes. Cardboard's initial composition constantly changes by the forces of our hands and the string through the form-giving process until it reaches the final balance. Cesarean is a surgical operation for delivering a child, but not in the natural way. It is usually performed when a natural delivery put the situation at risk (Wikipedia). Public thinking about the cesarean section is that it releases mother from that undesirable thing: the pain and the pressure. The concept of "pressure" is the major clue to understand the essence of this project; a kind of mental pressure which is rooted in a dilemma between "the strong desire to create and express" & "the districts of the dominating situation that causes inability". Mitochondria’s Cesarean is the name of a collection, consisted of nine different pieces. These pieces that look like Mitochondria, are in fact the manifestation of our mental conflicts that have been delivered through a cesarean operation.
This Project was presented in Fourisalone Sarpie Bridge in Milan Design Week 2013.
