This is a very special project in cooperation with New Zealand born and London based photographer ALAN McFETRIDGE. Alan took these images 3 days after this beautiful Australian landscape was visited by fire. Please read the interesting statement below about the circumstances of the shooting and how a particular smartphone app helped the photographer to be at the right place at the right time.

This rural Australian landscape had been scorched by fire just 3 days before these images were taken. Carried by strong winds, a grass fire had whipped across 4477 hectares of land in a few days. Although still smoldering away in parts, we were able to see green shoots of grass rising back up from the cinder. This fire began near West Wyalong, NSW, when a grain harvester struck a rock, causing sparks that started the fire as they made contact with the tinder dry wheat. It spread rapidly and became out-of-control.
Finding this freshly altered landscape was a testing task achieved using the sophisticated real-time 'fires near me' smartphone app. Developed by the NSW Rural Fire Service the app acts to warn and alert the public to the severity of the fire and distance. It is a preventative measure against the increasing number of wildfires in Australia.
During the time of scouting, the app presented numerous fires to investigate, some were controlled back burning by the NSW Fire Service. In this case, a large scale out of control emergency.
