Our teachers at Parsons took us to Coney Island so that we could take pictures, keeping in mind that we would have to use them for this project. We were asked to think of a theme or a fil rouge linking the images and the text. Also, we were limited to using just one font and one color for accents.
Coney Island is an incredible mosaic of different landscapes: the beach, the old luna park, Little Odessa. Instead of focusing on one of these parts, I decided to capture the different people that you can encounter on the streets. Families spending the day at the beach; kids on the merry-go-round; old people shopping; couples hand-in-hand on the boardwalk...
As we were required to insert text parts too, I chose some quotes about Coney Island by different authors and I thought that Clarendon would be a good choice, as it has a circus-y feeling. I also added some fine stroke squares to enhance some details.
