RICCO TYPE's profile

Protihibice | typeface specimen

Prohibition typeface is one of a semestral work in atelier of graphic design in the 2nd semester of 2nd year in the Faculty of arts & design in Pilsen.
The task was to make typeface about some political or historical event. I love American style in the first half of the twentieth century and event besides it, so I choose prohibition mainly in the 30s but the topic is about prohibition in general. The visualization of the typeface comes from the titles of American newspapers of the 30s woodcut style. I tried to make it organic. None of the curves are repeated, no measuring, every glyph is made as equal. So the final look looks very rough. The concept of the typeface deals about prohibition as a ban.Everybody know, that prohibition nothing solves but vice versa increases the crime thanks to illegal business with alcohol. So in short, when you absolutely ban something, something more worse comes. My typeface is working with Opentype features. When you write some of the canceled word, like beer, alcohol atc., it bans the word but it comes with much more words which this canceled topic produces. The censored parts are ripped with wave function as  drunk style
