Time Viewer iOS Icon

Back in early 2012 I was approached to create an iOS app icon as well as some matching iTunes App Store artwork. The client explained how he needed several sizes of the icon as well as two size variations on the iTunes artwork.
The app was to be called “Time Viewer”, a feature packed calender app.
I was asked to create an icon that was clearly discernible at anywhere from a 29×29 square to a 1024×1024 square. It could not include any text, as the app was to support a large variety of languages.
The client’s original placeholder icon was some clip art of an hourglass, I played with an hourglass as one of my design concepts, as well as binoculars (to play on the “viewer” part”) and a few concepts with the magnifying glass.
We both agreed the above piece was the best looking and most usable of the concepts.
Time Viewer is available in the iTunes App Store here.
In September of 2013, Apple unveiled iOS 7. With it, a massive overhaul of the iOS visual style. I took this opportunity to update the Time Viewer icon to match the new look. Getting rid of the shininess and bevels, removing shadows for a much flatter look, and changing the color scheme to the more vibrant, pastel colors of iOS 7.
I presented the new design to my client. They decided not to use it, but I wanted to include it here since I personally love it.
