Forex Hub Page (NASDAQ OMX)

NASDAQ FX Hub Page

Our team, acting as a forex agency at the time, worked with Nasdaq OMX to create a Foreign Exchange (Forex) Hub page on their website as they expanded into the FX market.

Our team determined that the FX Hub page would be comprised of several elements that were valuable to their target users: a ticker, breaking news, a currency converter, a broker comparison chart, fx education, a currency chart, and forex related articles with a section highlighting the contributors. Additionally, we had to account for ad space so that this hub page was in accordance with the rest of the website as well as something that would satisfy their ad-supported business model (as a financial publisher). The design we ended up with was created for desktop as the team at NASDAQ had a separate mobile-friendly version of their website.

I was tasked with designing all wireframes and high-fidelity mock-ups as well as shipping over all assets to the development team at NASDAQ OMX.

Not only did we have to account for ad spaces in our designs, but we also incorporated areas where native ads were included. The problem was clear: How would we give FX traders the information they need while making the page as easy as possible to navigate, aligning with Nasdaq’s look and feel/branding, and incorporating space for banner ads as well as native ads within the content?
inspiration
We took inspiration from modern media publishers with beautifully-designed homepages. We studied the way these publishers incorporated native ads into their content as well as how they organized the content from top to bottom and left to right and what design elements they used to maintain balance. Some of the media publishers we looked at were Wired, The New York Times, and FiveThirtyEight.
process
Due to time constraints, we did not conduct user interviews and research. The team at NASDAQ OMX already had an idea of what type of users would be visiting this FX hub page and so we designed around the needs for those users:
FX traders (beginners), brokers, stock traders, and writers who were to contribute to the articles section.
