White China
The china clay pits of Cornwall
These are the weird unworldly landscapes of west cornwall.
White China clay ( the kind that makes bone china plates and cups) is mined out of the ground and a fine white mud is stored in the giant lakes. The pyramid is the topsoil that has been mined off to gain access to seams of clay.

The surface of the white mud is not solid and you would simply sink if you tried to cross it.
The same white china lakes, a slightly more liquid one at a different time of day.
The far horizon line is the edge of a raised surface where the liquid drains out, a metal pipe or similar object has sank beneath the clay hence is causing iron oxide (rust) to seep into the lake..
