Dust jacket (above) and interior spreads (below) from Quarterboards. A quarterboard is a sign that was placed on the quarterdeck of a ship and displayed the ship's title. Many were beautifully and elaborately carved. Some were retrieved from shipwrecks and used to adorn homes on Nantucket. Today the tradition continues, as master craftsmen continue to carve beautiful signs that now hang on newer homes. In this book Sharon Hubbard traces the history of the quarterboard and Dan Driscoll's beautiful photographs depict the scenes and the boards.
