TODAY, TOMORROW
Today, it is easy for one to place his or her self in nature. Public parks, forests, and natural greenery are all around us. We grow our own gardens both for produce and pleasure. Fresh flowers serve as beautiful centerpieces in our homes, and potted succulents are available at the same stores where we buy our groceries.

Tomorrow, these things could be harder to come by.

The greenhouse gases and carbon emissions we are creating today are making tomorrow a bleak place where our planet is contaminated by extremely polluted air and toxic smog levels. Our careless actions today are destroying our environment and killing off global greenery, and a world lacking in greenery is a world lacking in natural air purification; plants are part of what NASA calls "nature's life support system".

Imagine this scenario:
A future where today's actions truly do have those consequences. Greenery is a rarity, and clean air, especially air purified naturally by plants, is a luxury.

Many people possess a plant inhaler, a handheld object roughly the size of an 8 oz milk carton. The inhaler houses a small air purifying plant and is used similarly to an asthma inhaler. It is raised to the mouth, and when the user inhales, the inhaler delivers clean air to the lungs. It is used both practically and recreationally because breathing clean air is a luxury, an almost psychedelic experience.

While the plant inhaler is not actually functional as an air purifying device, it elicits questions about a future in need of one. Our future could be one in which something like a plant inhaler is a common household object if we continue to neglect our planet at this rate.
