Material Exploration

The realization that all concepts can be shared across any media of my choosing has been monumental in my motivation to create. I am free to explore and experiment. I am able to switch materials without feeling like I am straying from my artistic identity.
All art shares structure, organization, transition, unity, movement, and layers. I am a fiber artist by classification of major, but I can explore composition, texture, color, emotion, and energy through photography, writing, music, paint--anything that proves a valuable material through which I can learn, and further my understanding of the concepts which interest me. Below are some of these explorations.
Part of a series of 12 embroidered vintage photographs. Using thread to build upon the existing linework, creating tactile dimension and building upon the narrative.
The following piece utilizes fibrous paper and laser cutting to evoke the sense of enchantment when looking through a kaleidoscope.
Above and below were photographed looking through a friends' beloved kaleidoscope collection.
