SOL : Skin Protection Aid

Concept refinement. UV Index detected with a Zinc detector and displayed through colour. Different levels of haptic feedback.
Designed to be secured to the strap of a backpack.
Sol consists of a strap, protective bracket and skin scanner.
Utilising the miniaturisation of multiphoton microscopy and flourescent lifetime imaging software, Sol tracks the density and movement of melanin within the user's skin.  This gives an indication as to whether they are burning or not.
To activate the scanner, the user simply presses their palm onto the skin.  Haptic feedback is produced using a shape-changing surface (Electro-Active Polymer).  The 3 levels are designed to trigger an emotional response and create a subconscious urgency to take action.
